Science

As a master's student at Portland State University, my research is focused on amphibian movement and habitat connectivity in fragmented urban ecosystems. I study a population of northern red-legged frogs (Rana aurora) on the outskirts of northwest Portland, Oregon that are influenced by human landscape alteration—specifically, the frogs must access their breeding habitat in the floodplain of the Willamette River by crossing U.S. Route 30. My research investigates how northern red-legged frogs use a newly installed under-road crossing structure designed to facilitate wildlife movement beneath the road, and seeks to better understand the spatial ecology of this sensitive species to inform effective management practices and conservation strategies.
